Which version is right for me?

The Open Source package is the right choice for open source projects or when you do not require commercial support and do not mind open sourcing your own code. When you are looking to use PlatForm commercially in a closed source project, looking for support, or the extra features the licence offer. Go for the commercial licence.

About Javeline DeskRun

Javeline DeskRun enables you to add desktop functionality to your web application. You can either load your web application in DeskRun from a URL or package it as a single executable. In DeskRun, you have several options for window creation and control. Create transparent, odd sized, and tool windows; specify modal ones, or those always on top; control windows, minimize/maximize them; and assign a title icon and caption.

Such applications receive new information from the server; whether a new chat message, RSS feed or new email, the balloon function can notify the user of new information. Enable minimizing of the application to the tray when it is unused. This all keeps the user more involved with your website and/or application (see the flickr demo on www.ajax.org).

With DeskRun you can develop applications that run online or offline and handle irregular server conditions. This opens up a whole new way of dealing with web applications. You can maintain a local cache with the file system features of DeskRun. By combining DeskRun with Javeline PlatForm, you can create interactive GUIs with a desktop look&feel. PlatForm has native support for offline application development. You need only to turn it on.

Use DeskRun to create utilities. Because DeskRun offers JavaScript APIs you can easily create a simple application that performs a useful task. An example is the utility that maintains backups and exports of any C++ library (see www.ajax.org) without any obj and other unwanted files.

The Javeline Packager application is built in DeskRun as well. Use JavaScript to parse and execute the configuration file, and the DeskRun API to package applications made with Javeline Products. (Read about how the Packager enables you to create a single executable.)
